Iggs Restaurant and Barioja Tapas Bar

Iggs Restaurant and its neighbour Barioja Tapas wine bar presents the perfect Spanish culinary double act, whether you fancy a seriously good lunch/dinner or a tasty snack and glass of Rioja. Their easily accessible location in the Old Town is just a few minute’s walk from the Royal Mile and a short stroll from Princes Street. Iggy Campo created his eponymous, award winning restaurant in 1989, and then opened Barioja next door in 2001. You can be assured of authentic cuisine, due to a Spanish owner and Spanish chefs in the kitchen.

By night, the intimate L shaped Iggs restaurant has a smart casual romantic mood, dressed in white linen, candles, golden amber walls with landscape paintings. The speciality is fish using finest Scottish produce, complemented by imported Spanish ingredients. The choice of Primeros are all tempting, so highly recommended is the Selecccion de Tapitas, a platter of tiny portions of seafood starters, such as scallops, Iggs’ gamba cake, Sea bass mousse and clam chowder. For Segundos, sample the classic Zarzuela, shellfish and chorizo stew with saffron rice or Iberico Pork (from pigs fed on acorns), served with slow braised pork belly and a sweet and sour apple cider reduction balancing the salty meat. Tuna Steak Meuniere is pan fried pink, almost rare, with potatoes and provencal tomato - fresh, simple, perfect. Ice cream and chocolate desserts or try the superb cured Spanish cheese board. Iggs has won the AA wine list award for three years (2005-2007) for its extensive Spanish wine, sherry and liqueur cellar.

Barioja next door is the place in town for traditional tapas, paella, salads, black pudding and fish dishes, and a glass or two of Rioja, Cava or Sangria. Lively atmosphere and Latino jazzy music. All day Sunday Spanish breakfast.
