Tucked away down a side street off the rutted road that leads down to the city’s northern gates, this beautifully restored Ottoman house has elegant courtyards and some of the loveliest mashrabiyyas (latticed wood window screens) in intricate designs that women could look through without being seen. Such Cairene houses of the period were strictly divided into public and private (family) areas.
With fine painted ceilings, decorative cushions, carpets and exquisite turned wood, every room and hall has a calm atmosphere. It is a wonderful place to explore.
