Hotel Villa Ada
Just 20 yards from the long, golden sands of Pozzallo beach, the Hotel Villa Ada is in an ideal location. The seas are so clean in this small port and seaside resort they have received the prestigious Blu Flag award by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The hotel also makes a great base to visit south-eastern Sicily with its Baroque towns in the Val di Noto such as Ragusa, Modica, Scicli and Ispica, as well as its many ancient ruins.
This pleasant three-star hotel and restaurant first opened in 1928 and was built by Francesco Caruso in what Sicilians call Liberty style, which for Brits would equate with Art Nouveau. Recently renovated, it is still run as a family business by Caruso’s descendants. Apart from it being a short stroll to the beach, the hotel is situated on Pozzallo’s Corso Vittorio Veneto, the venue for the traditional passeggiata, or gentle evening stroll taken by the locals, and the street is packed with shops, restaurants, bars and cafés.
The friendly and helpful staff are able to organise excursions to go diving, swimming, fishing and sailing, and day trips to the nearby island of Malta. The hotel’s spacious rooms are modern, clean and light, and equipped with air conditioning, TV, telephone, and sound proofing to help guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep. Prices vary according to the time of year, with August being the peak season since that is when most Italians go on holiday.
