It might be said that the great American cupcake, each variety swirled with frosting and given a cute, down-home name, has had its moment. Step inside Lincoln Park bakery Molly’s, however, and you’ll be seduced all over again by the sweet smell and made-for-each-other flavour combinations. The house speciality is filled cupcakes too huge to contemplate at one sitting, but they also do more approachable mini versions. Try the pumpkin spice, with brown butter buttercream, or the chocolate mousse-filled version topped with velvety ganache. Ditherers are treated kindly by the patient counter staff, but the sugar-starved queue may punish the undecided.
