Hotel Pastis, Saint Tropez
If someone asked me to visualise my ideal hotel in the south of France, Hotel Pastis in St Tropez would probably be it.
About ten minutes’ walk from the centre of the village, this contemporary nine-room boutique hotel in St Tropez is a must-visit for the style-conscious. Owned by British expat designers John and Pauline Larkin, staying here is as comfortable as staying in someone’s home: mellow jazz in the background (or whatever takes your fancy from the eclectic music collection), breakfast or snacks when requested, advice on the best places to go and things to do, a private collection of David Hockney photos on the walls.
Some rooms have sea views, some overlook the rectangular pool; all have extremely comfortable beds covered in the finest white bedlinen; my favourite has a roll-top copper bath. There isn’t a restaurant but you’ll find no shortage of eateries in the village. Families will be delighted to know that children are very welcome and as some rooms can sleep a family of four. No cigarettes or animals, please.
