Sex & the City
Manhattans and Manolo Blahniks at the ready girls. You watched the series, you’ve seen the film, now it’s time to experience New York City Carrie Bradshaw-style.
The Mandarin Oriental New York is one of the hottest hotels in Manhattan. Head to the Lobby Lounge on the 35th floor for amazing cocktails and views of that celebrated skyline and Central Park. For a spot of detox, the spa is to die for. A decadent new Sex & The City package runs until the end of the year (2008). For US$2000 per night you can have a Hudson River view Room, private on location tour for up to five people, Sex and the City Trivia game, up to two Sex and the City inspired cocktails, one US$200 Henri Bendel Gift Card and a VIP goody bag with a gift from Cosabella at Henri Bendel.
Henri Bendel’s on Fifth Avenue is one of the city’s chicest stores and a total girls’ playground. Many of the bags and accessories in SATC are sourced here. Go find!
Begin a night on the town with dinner at the 21 Club which began life as a speakeasy in the days of Prohibition. 21 has been the location for scenes between Michele Pfeiffer and George Clooney in One Fine Day, Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery and of course Carrie and Big dined here (episode 85, series 6).
Other must do places to eat that have featured in the series include Town at The Chambers Hotel and the amber-lit Bar Siene at the Plaza Athéneé Hotel. In ‘An American Girl in Paris’ (episode 93, series 6), it appears that Carrie and Big spend the night at the Plaza Athéneé in Paris, however these scenes were all shot in the sister NYC hotel.
The Brasserie at the Seagram Building, where diners enter a space-age catwalk and their photos are beamed up to a row of video screen above the bar is where Carrie said goodbye to her friends in the penultimate episode of SATC.
Other must do hangouts we think are perfect for the girls include The Kingswood, Pearl Oyster Bar, Tao and Stanton Social with its raw bar, two lounges and one of the hippest new bars in the city. The Beatrice Inn is another must.
If you really want to go cutting edge Carrie, there’s no other place than the Meatpacking District. Stay at the Gansevoort or Soho Hotel, with rival rooftop pools just made for posing. For shopping there’s Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Jeffrey – the perfect bijou designer department store. Late night is when this district comes into its own. Go clubbing at APT, styled as an apartment and a must during New York Fashion Week.
And finally, book a suite at the Crosby Street Hotel even before Carrie does. Scheduled to open next March, this is all part of the trendy Brit invasion as Tim and Kit Kemp of London’s Firmdale Hotels (www.firmdalehotels.com) fame are behind the fab new hangout. Situated in SoHo between Prince, Spring and Lafayette there’ll be floor to ceiling warehouse-style windows in the suites, a liberal sprinkling of art and a sexy 100-seat cinema, just to place for Carrie and the girls to watch their favourite movies.
