The OXO Tower
South of the River (just) with the best view, a sweeping panorama of the Thames from Parliament to St Paul's. Last time I was there with six serious New York bankers they absolutely loved it, so they must be doing something right. The adjacent brasserie has the same view (but with a lot more noise) and the terrace outside is one of the great places to be on a summer's evening. The food is excellent, a little fussy for some tastes, but it's well run by the Harvey Nichols store chain.

The OXO Tower always seems to be a hit with friends and family visiting London. The brasserie is a more casual and forgiving atmosphere -- a bit noisy at times, but the bustle and excitement contribute to the atmosphere. The brasserie menu is interesting without being complicated, and it has a great bar.
