Mango Bay Resort
Picture yourself on a secluded beach with clear waters lapping at your toes. Palm trees are gently swaying around you and a smiling waiter is approaching with a freshly mixed cocktail in his hand. Sound idylllic? Well, it is.
This is the sort of thing you can expect from Mango Bay. The Fijian resort, tucked away on the Coral Coast, is one of the new 'Flashpacker' destinations aimed at people who are travelling on a budget but want more than just a dirty dorm room.
At Mango Bay, you can still get a dorm (albeit a nice clean one) but you can also upgrade to safari tents and beautiful beachfront bures - ideal for couples on romantic breaks away.
From the moment you arrive, you'll be warmly welcomed into the Mango Bay family. Brett, the American owner, is often buzzing around and the Fijian staff are always onhand to offer a friendly hello, or 'bula'. If you play your cards right, you might even get the chance to enjoy a taste of kava but take it from me, just don't overdo it!
If you just want to chill out on the beach with a book, that's fine, but like any good resort, Mango Bay has a whole host of activities to offer guests. These change every day and range from snorkelling in the bay to shopping trips to Suva and when night falls, you can choose whether to prop up the bar, hit the nightclub or even catch a movie with the other guests.
If all the sunshine starts going to your head, you can relax with a traditional Fijian massage and if you do see Brett on your travels, don't forget to say hello from me.
