Closure of the Yang Sing Oriental, 2nd March 2009:

Gerry Yeung and his amazing team at Hotel Yang Sing Oriental deeply regret to inform you that, despite their hard work and best efforts, Yang Sing Oriental Ltd has been placed into liquidation.

As a result of this, Hotel Yang Sing Oriental closed its doors on Monday 2nd March 2009.

Gerry, whose dream has been shattered by this sad closure, said:-

"We tried to create the best hotel in Manchester and we really feel that we have succeeded. Everyone who stayed here loved it. Unfortunately, our timing could not have been worse; opening only to suffer a global banking crisis, credit crunch and the worst recession since the 1930s."

Should you wish to contact the Hotel, please email contact@ysoriental.com.

TheTravelEditor is very sorry to see them go. Best of luck Gerry and we hope to see you open another fantastic hotel soon.

We've kept Emma's review for nostalgic purposes:

The new residential sibling of Manchester’s classic Chinese restaurant, Yang Sing Oriental is a classy proposition even at entry level. The cheapest rooms boast space, luxury and wet rooms that’ll bring on serious bathroom envy; at the other end of the scale the Grand Emperor Suite is a duplex affair with four-poster bed. All guests get to enjoy the contrast of stylish Eastern decor in a chunky, brick-built Victorian shell, wi-fi, complimentary minibar and movies, and impeccable service deliberately pitched above the competition. Breakfast is a triumph of simple pleasures, including fresh, not tinned, grapefruit, and orange juice you squeeze yourself. The fusion version of the full English, featuring hoi sin sausage and soy and sesame tomatoes, is pretty good too. Although attempts at luxury occasionally go awry – the Clarins Eau Dynamisante bathroom products are great, but not every man wants to go to work smelling of ladies’ perfume – the important things are spot-on every time. Magnificent.
