Abbey Theatre

recommended by Sue Dobson

With Dublin’s literary heritage you’d expect the city to have a great theatre and the renowned Abbey, Ireland’s National Theatre, fits the bill. It was even founded by a Irish literary giant, the Nobel Laureate William Butler Yeats.

From Samuel Beckett to William Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht to Bisi Adigun and Roddy Doyle’s new take on the J M Synge classic The Playboy of the Western World, and a clutch of world premieres, the main auditorium presents a varied repertoire. The smaller Peacock Theatre downstairs is a studio space dedicated to new plays and contemporary classic drama.

Whatever you see at the Abbey Theatre, it’ll be interesting!
