Dublinia and The Viking World

recommended by Sue Dobson

One of Dublin’s most popular attractions, this heritage centre explores the world of the Vikings and life in the medieval city. It is housed in a neo-Gothic Victorian building that was formerly the Synod Hall of the Church of Ireland, and is linked to Christ Church Cathedral by an elegant covered bridge.

Dublinia uses audio-visuals and interactive displays to tell the story of Dublin from the Viking capture of the city by Strongbow and his knights in 1170 to the Reformation and closure of the monasteries by King Henry VIII in the 16th century.

Get immersed in the sights, smells and sounds of medieval Dublin through reconstructions and original artefacts and investigate some of the myths surrounding the Vikings. Costumed living history events take place during the summer months. Children love Dublinia but there’s plenty to interest and involve the adults too.

Open: daily from April to September, 10am to 5pm. October to March, Monday to Friday 11am to 4pm, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday 10am to 4pm. Last admission 45 minutes before closing times.
Closed: December 23, 24, 25, 26 and March 17.
