Kurfürstendamm
If you’re in the market for some designer goods, head to Kurfürstendamm.
Berlin’s most famous shopping street has everything from Louis Vuitton to Valentino and is often referred to as Germany’s very own Fifth Avenue.
Lined with shops, hotels and restaurants, the boulevard – often known as Ku’damm – is a mecca for tourists and there is something to suit all budgets whether you’re after the latest pair of Louboutins or a tacky souvenir.
One of Ku’damm’s most famous stores is KaDeWe – short for ‘Kaufhaus des Westens’ or ‘department store of the West’. A haven for shopaholics, it is the biggest department store in Europe and even boasts its own grocery and delicatessen, where upper class Berliners can be seen feasting on champagne and oysters.
Ku’damm itself has been in existence for more than 600 years and in its heyday, in the years before the Great War, the street was home to some of Berlin’s most rich and famous residents. Nowadays, however, its ornate high-rise apartments are more likely to be occupied by local businesses.
No trip to Berlin is complete without a visit.
