Absinthe (either with or without the 'e' at the end) is certainly an acquired taste.

The aniseed-flavoured spirit is distilled from herbs and often referred to as the ‘Green Fairy’, because of its distinctive colouring.

Favoured by many bohemian poets, artists and writers (including Vincent van Gogh and Oscar Wilde), Absinthe packs a punch that is hard to see coming. But at the Absinth Depot, in Berlin, the drink is positively celebrated and served every which way you can imagine.

Formerly illegal in many countries, Absinthe can be as much as 75% proof – which, let me tell you, is very strong in comparison to the usual 40% spirits on the market, such as gin and vodka.

It's generally served with water but if you're brave enough to visit this cute little bar, make sure you go easy…

Weinmeisterstraße 4, Berlin, Germany
