The collections and exhibitions are firmly rooted in the present but their setting is the magnificent 17th-century Royal Hospital building in Kilmainham, surrounded by acres of gardens and grounds.

Changing exhibitions reflect the museum’s own collections, donations and loans. If you want to see some of the most exciting trends in Irish and international art, this is the place to visit. It’s a 10-minute drive or 40-minute walk from the city centre, but there’s also plenty of public transport to get you there. There’s a museum café and bookshop to browse.

Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5.30pm (Wednesday 10.30am to 5.30pm), Sunday and Bank Holidays 12noon to 5.30pm. Last admission 5.15pm. Late opening until 8pm on Thursdays in summer.

Closed Monday.

Royal Hospital, Military Road , Dublin 8, Ireland
