Five top tips for tourists visiting Malta

Don't make the Maltese Cross...

Here are our five top holiday tips
:

1. Malta is great for country walks but keep to the paths because hunting with guns is common in the fields.

2. There are hundreds of historic churches to visit but remember to dress modestly to avoid offending strictly religious locals.

3. Malta’s sea water is considered among the cleanest in the Mediterranean – but there were reports of sewage problems this year in some spots. If in doubt only swim where you see locals swimming.

4. The Maltese drive on the left like us – but that’s where the similarity ends. Driving standards are erratic and roads often don’t have pavements. Take care whether driving or as a pedestrian.

5. Whatever the weather, the wearing of swimsuits is restricted to beaches and hotel pools. You’ll get severe frowns from locals if you walk through a Maltese town in your bikini.
