Loch Fyne restaurant, Bath - specialist seafood in a Grade II listed building

It doesn't feel like one in a chain of 50-odd restaurants. The location on the corner helps - the restaurant occupies the corner of George Street and Milson Street, two of Bath's most elegant shopping streets. Inside, the grand spaciousness helps too - with big light windows, bright lights and high ceiling. You'll have to park and walk to get there though - there's nowhere in the immediate vicinity.

There's casual bistro ambience and food is reliable and interesting without threatening to step into the gourmet realm. The image of LF has been built on oysters and mussels from the Loch in Scotland, but a restaurant this big and busy in a World Heritage site full of tourists needs more. Hence the full menu of white fish plus a few token meats too. The beef oand venison is from the glens around Loch Fynne says the publicity. They also have a policy of only using sustainable fish - so no deep-sea-trawler-catches or endangered stock here.

A good bet is the grilled whole sea bass with new potatoes and rosemary and herb butter - not bad for £14. And look for special deals like Tuesday's fish, chips and glass of wine for £11 and Thursday's moules, frites and glass of wine for £11. That's as cheap as a good meal gets in the centre of Bath. And if you drink too much, don't worry - there's a cosy boutique hotel upstairs.
