Tacheles
First impressions count. And if you stumble across Tacheles, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve walked in to a run-down squat.
Fear not though – you’ll only be the latest in a long line of tourists to discover the international art project, run by the industry’s latest up-and-comings.
The former warehouse, with its walls daubed in graffiti, became an unofficial art gallery in 1990 after a handful of Berlin squatters moved in to stop the building being demolished.
Now, not only is Tacheles home to a number of studios but it boasts an uber-trendy café, cinema, performance spaces and a sculpture garden. There is also a petition currently doing the rounds campaigning for its expansion.
This unusual gallery is well worth checking out if you’re a lover of modern art – or even if you’re not.
