The Clarence Hotel, Dublin
A conventional yet innovative Dublin hotel, The Clarence by the River Liffey is owned by rock royalty Bono and The Edge and cleverly mixes history with hip.
Downstairs in the public areas, many of the building’s original features remain, including oak panelling and arts-and-crafts style windows.
Upstairs, no two of the 49 rooms and suites are the same, but all are stylishly comfortable with Shaker-style oak furniture, crisp white linens and spacious bathrooms. Most have super king-size beds. All the furnishings have been custom designed and crafted mainly by Irish artisans.
The Octagon Bar is as famous for its cocktails as its pints, the Snug lives up to its name and the Tea Room Restaurant serves some of the finest food in Dublin.
If you want to live like the celebs who stay here, book the €2,700-a-night duplex penthouse complete with baby grand piano, panoramic rooftop terrace and outdoor hot tub.
