The Tea Room at The Clarence
Featuring innovative dishes stylishly presented, The Tea Room’s cuisine of ‘modern Irish with a Continental twist’ is pretty special.
The restaurant is on the ground floor of The Clarence, famously owned by U2’s Bono and The Edge, and inhabits what was originally the ballroom of the hotel before its makeover. So it’s an impressive space, with a mezzanine, a soaring ceiling and lots of light.
Good design and natural materials give it an uncluttered feel, which reflects Executive Chef Mathieu Melin’s belief in ‘keeping it simple’ – though ‘simple’ is not quite the word I’d use to describe the imaginative combination of ingredients he conjures for his dishes.
The Monkfish Wrapped in Parma Ham is roasted in butter, sautéed mushroom, braised oxtail, coco bean and bacon foam, while the Cannon of Irish Lamb is accompanied by celeriac mousseline, beetroot purée, guacamole and cherry sauce.
For starters try King Crab Ravioli with confit orange and grapefruit. Save room for such desserts as Chocolate Sphere with caramelised pecan nut ice cream or Raspberry and Violet Millefeuilles with lime mousse and violet ice cream.
Lunch 12.30-2.30pm daily except Saturday. Two-course set lunch menu €26, or à la carte.
