Dublin
There are few cities where you can so seamlessly marry a business trip with some serious leisure time as you can in Dublin. This may be an important centre of commerce and the Irish headquarters of some major corporations but the "craic" is ever present. There are few business meetings which don’t end up in an atmospheric bar late in the evening.
The great thing about this city is that almost everything worth seeing is within walking distance of the major hotel area, so a quick stroll to your business meeting may well take you across St Stephen’s Green, where the railings display works by aspiring artists, some better than others; past St Patrick’s Cathedral, where Handel’s Messiah was first performed in public; or through Trinity College.
Then there’s the pedestrian part of Grafton Street, with the street entertainers - human statues, limbo dancers, fiddlers attempting various classical music. And across the River Liffey there’s O’Connell Street, with the General Post Office, still bullet scarred from the 1916 uprising.
For even more local colour head for Temple bar where the cultural centres, which draw the crowds during the day, give way as evening falls to the dozens of vibrant bars and restaurants acting as a magnet for those doing the stag- or hen-night circuit.
