It’s all very well checking the price – but what about the quantity of what you are buying abroad? How many cubic centimetres of Turkish Delight do you really need? And why is that salesman sniggering behind his hand?

Fear not – help is to hand. This multi-purpose travel calculator converts currencies for you, then can do 20 different metric conversions using dedicated keys, including litres to gallons, pounds to kilos, farenheight to centigrade, and kilometres to miles.

The screen is big and clear – so digits are clearer to read. But that means it’s bigger and heavier too – 125x80x13mm and 73gms (5x3x1/2in and 2.5ozs). Canon mount their FC-45S in a horrid plasticky wallet but redeem themselves by building in a solar generator to supplement the normal batteries.
