Product Review

Think of the dangling lantern flickering in an Antarctic wind as the gallant Captain Oates leaves the tent saying “I may gone be some time…”
Well, this is the state of the art in camping lanterns - and it’s nothing like that flickering weak old stereotype.

This has a four-watt LED light to give 300 lumens of light - that’s easily enough to light my office tonight. And Varta claim the three D-type batteries lasts for up to 150 hours. There’s rubbery handle at the top and a folding hanging hook on the bottom. You can select high, low and strobe mode and the chunky unit is weather resistant. It even keeps going if I bang it up and down on my desk. In fact the hefty rubber base is making a dent in my desk so I’ll stop.

It adds up to an really useful tool for campers, boaters, hikers, fishermen, and anyone who needs to be out at night.

The only thing I can find to criticise is it weighs a fair bit thanks to those three batteries. You’d notice this in your backpack on a long walk.
