Club Watt, eco-friendly nightclub
The atmosphere at Club Watt is electric - literally.
The Rotterdam nightclub is the first sustainable dance club in the world and not only do its patrons get the party started, but they keep it going until the wee small hours.
Club Watt is special, you see. It is home to one of the only energy-generating dancefloors ever made, which, using 'piezoelectricity', harvests the movement created by clubbers to power the lights.
The average dancer makes about 20 watts of electricity, so the more shapes they throw, the more electricity they create. Clever, eh?
Club Watt's eco-friendly ethic doesn't stop there, though. The superclub - which holds around 1,440 people - also boasts rainwater-fed toilets and low-waste bars, where almost everything is recycled.
It has also managed to lower its heating bill by feeding off of amplifiers and other musical equipment.
People travel from far and wide to get their green clubbing fix, but if you want to see the dancefloor, be warned - it's not always there.
It has been such a success that the owners often loan it out for demonstrations so if you know you're heading to Club Watt, try and call ahead to make sure you don't miss out on the main attraction.
