Rome - Culture for Free
  The Colosseum, Rome

Rome simply bursts with grandeur. The city’s classical past is obvious everywhere and the good news is that even if you are short of cash, you needn’t miss out on viewing its treasures.

The Colosseum is the mother of all Roman sites; stroll round and soak up the atmosphere of centuries past. The Roman Forum and Mamertine Prison where apostles Peter and Paul were imprisoned, was where ancient movers and shakers of the day conducted their business; banking, trading and shopping. Entering the forum is still free, now as then.

Walk the Appia Antica, the old road out of Rome on Sunday, a car-free day. There is plenty to see on the tranquil walk, though if you prefer, free guided tours are also available. And of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without tossing three coins in the Trevi Fountain – it’s worth it, because legend says that will guarantee your return to the Eternal City!
