  Billingham 307 Camera Bag

The Billingham 307 is a classic leather and canvas camera bag, which could also double as an overnight bag.

UK price: £269.99

Pros: Total quality.
Cons: I don't own it.

Verdict:  The most desirable bag I've ever tested.

Product Review

Among all the old bags I've inspected in my time this stands out so much it's like Joss Stone visiting an old folks home.

Now we all know Billingham make ultra-expensive, classically styled, rugged and long-lasting, leather and canvas camera bags. Most professionals use them, for all the above reasons. The Billingham 555 camera bag I tested for this site is very, very good. This is smaller, more expensive but is even better.

The new Billingham 307 is a camera bag with an extra appeal - you can pull out all the padded dividers inside and convert it into an overnight bag.

It has one big middle pocket with a zip that is covered by a big fold-over flap. On the front are two more pockets with flaps that close by press stud and leather straps. On the back is a single zipped pocket, again covered by a fold-over flap. On the bottom are four brass ‘feet’ set in leather cornerpieces.

The Billingham 307 camera bag measures 360 x 180 x 260mm and feels just a perfect size. Crikey, it even smells gorgeous. This could be my favourite bag of all time.

I found three ways to carry the thing: there are two leather carry handles held by brass rings, a heavy duty shoulder strap with padded leather shoulder pad and two leather carry handles on top too. It means you can carry it open or closed, in your hand or on your shoulder.

With the green inserts velcroed in place it can hold two SLRs, three lenses and a flash unit. It comes in khaki with a green interior or black. And it’s lovely. Did I say that already?

I know, if you decide to buy it, don't tell Billingham you read about it here. I'll keep quiet about it and maybe they'll forget they sent it to me. Then I'll be able to keep it.
