Getting around Linz
  Linz Central Station

From the Airport

Linz Blue Danube Airport lies 12km to the southwest of the city. A bus leaves from outside the arrivals hall that goes to the main railway station, with a final stop by the Volksgarten, from where you can get trams and buses, or walk, into the city centre. It operates an hourly service daily, except Sunday, from 6am to 7pm. On Sunday and holidays there is a bus into town at 4.50pm (to service the Ryanair flight from Stansted). Buy a ticket on the bus. Journey time about 25 minutes. Single fare €2.50, children under 6 travel free.

Taxis are also plentiful at the airport.

Around town

The centre of Linz and the main sights are within easy walking distance, but there’s an excellent tram and bus service. Tickets can be bought from ticket machines at public transport stops, at tobacconists and at the Linz Infocenter on Hauptplatz, but not on the bus/tram.

Linz City Express
A cheerful yellow tourist train, the Linz City Express trundles around city centre streets for a 25-minute journey that takes in many of the main sights. It leaves from the Hauptplatz and the experience is enjoyed as much by adults as children.

Fare: adult €6.50, child €3

Hauptplatz Kiosk, 4020 Linz

Money-saving Linz card

The Linz Card gives free admission to all the museums in Linz, unlimited use of public transport trams and buses, a return trip on the Pöstlingbergbahn tram, a restaurant voucher and a range of discounts. Valid for one day or three days, these passes are well worth buying if you plan on visiting several museums.

The Linz Card can be purchased at the Linz Infocenter at Hauptplatz 5, at the Infocenter desk at the airport, in museums and hotels.
