Suomenlinna Fortress
One of Helsinki’s biggest attractions is the Suomenlinna fortress, dating back to the 1700s. The well-known fortress was built on six islands and today houses 800 residents, several museums, as well as cafes and restaurants for visitors. To get there, take a ferry from Helsinki’s Market Square. Suomenlinna fortress is a UNESCO world heritage site and can be visited year-round.
Helsinki’s Historic City centre
The city centre of Finland’s capital dates back to the 1600s and offers both architectural beauty and many attractions and sights within walking distance. City Hall, Helsinki Cathedral, the Market Square, the Old Market Hall and the Presidential Palace are all at close range.
Toolonlahti Bay
Impossible to pronounce for non-natives, but wonderful to visit! The park around Toolonlahti Bay starts directly in Helsinki and besides a quiet and relaxing afternoon, it also offers visitors the colourfully planted Winter Garden, the Sports Museum and the Finnish National Opera, as well as the Olympic Stadium, Finlandia Hall and the Linnunlaulu district of the wooden villas.
Museum Island Seurasaari
Seurasaari is Helsinki’s museum island, with an open-air museum showing Finnish traditions and buildings from the 1700s to the 1900s. It offers visitors workshops and events for the whole family in summer and is also the location for annual celebrations like Christmas, Easter and Midsummer’s Eve in summer.
