In the palatial apartments of popes down the centuries are room after jaw-dropping room, ceiling after neck-cricking ceiling, wall after stunningly painted wall. Plus the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms thrown in for good measure. Gen-up on what you want to see before you go. The place is vast and it’s easy to get sidetracked and miss some essentials.
