Shopping in Rome
Most of the Roman’s high fashion shops and haute couture boutiques are in the area around the Spanish Steps: the main shopping street is Via del Corso (and Via Condotti), but the side streets are all worth exploring (Via della Croce, Via delle Carrozze, Via Frattina, Via Borgognona). From the Spanish Steps, heading towards Piazza del Popolo, Via del Babuino and Via Margutta house hidden small art galleries and places worth a stop (like the elegant Hotel de Russie for an aperitif, or the concept store “TAD”).
An alternative shopping walk, which tourist crowds usually don’t chose, could start in piazza Campo dei Fiori, during the market hours, so to not miss the colourful flower and fruit market. The area, just a few steps from Piazza Navona, is worth exploring - Palazzo Farnese (most of which was designed by Michelangelo, hosts the French Embassy), and the elegant Via Giulia, are two minutes away - before heading to Via dei Giubbonari for some cheap shopping or towards Via dei Cappellari for some vintage boutiques like “Bohemien” or more in Via del Governo Vecchio, close to trendy or unique stores, like “Maga Morgana”, with a stop in the deluxe sexy shop “Zou Zou” in Via della Cancelleria, and in the fiabesque store “Ainulindale” in Corso Rinascimento.
Not far from this area there is Via dei Coronari, a renowned antique stores street, where all styles furnitures and marbles can be purchased.
While shopping, Piazza della Pace and Chiostro del Bramante are little gem places to slow down and sip a coffee.
Not far away, more shops and traditional stores are in Via della Scrofa and the Pantheon area, together with some of the best places to stop for a coffee - Caffe’ Sant’Eustachio and Caffe’ Tazza d’oro (great coffee granita with whipped cream) – or for an aperitif in Piazza di Pietra at Salotto 42, or for a late drink in Piazza delle Coppelle where the lively Roman crowd hangs out during the summer nights.
Plenty of other fashion shopping stores are located in more residential areas like Prati (close to the Vatican) and Parioli (located North, close to Villa Borghese).
