L’Hotel, Paris
  L’Hotel, Paris

The love affair between England and France is clear for all to see at L’Hotel, Paris.

Part of the British owned ‘A Curious Group of Hotels’, it owes its unusual appeal to an understated combination of British charm such as British-tailored uniforms, Wedgwood crockery, Marmite at breakfast and English speaking staff and Parisienne glamour. Its location in the 6th arrondissement means the Boulevard St Germain, River Seine, Louvre, Musee d’Orsay and Notre Dame are only moments away. Built around a famous six floor oval atrium, the most famous room, 16 is where Oscar Wilde lived till his death in 1900. A framed copy of the final bill Wilde failed to pay, as he was ‘living beyond his means’, hangs on the wall. Other illustrious guests have included Ava Gardner, Salvador Dali, Jim Morrison, Al Pacino, Robert de Niro, Mick Jagger, Quentin Tarantino, Johnny Depp, Sean Penn and Dita Von Teese. Some of the rooms have terraces overlooking Paris’ rooftops and the spire of St Germain-des-Pres. All have large French windows and marble bathrooms with C-Side goodies. Hidden under the stone vaulted ceilings of the cellars, there’s a cavern with private pool and hammam, while Le Restaurant has rising star, Philippe Belissent at the helm.
