Castel Sant’Angelo
recommended by

Castel Sant’Angelo fortress and museum, commissioned by emperor Hadrian (year 135), set along the shores of the Tiber, offers a unique and memorable experience especially at sunset (it closes at 7 pm and on mondays, and hosts a rooftop café). It is connected to St Peter’s Basilica by a corridor, which was built so to constitute an escape route for the Popes. The castle is also sadly notorious for the executions that took place in its courtyard (the opera Tosca was set here).
