Product Review

STM bags come from Australia and generally seem to be classy, stylish and well made. The trouble is with this Glove laptop/notepad sleeve is that it stinks.

Really. Perhaps it doesn't stink all the time but today is quite hot here in England where I'm testing the Glove. And the rubbery material of the bag is smelly. Like hot car tyres or an old inflatable boat that has been left in the sun. It's very off-putting. If you are a sales person you wouldn't want to turn up to see a client and get this out. Sorry about the stench - it's my laptop bag.

They call it a ‘wetsuit for your laptop'. It certainly smells like the inside of one.

So apart from the reek of rubber, the Glove is a pretty straight-ahead skin-tight protective sleeve for a laptop. It comes in five colours and four sizes. I tried the one designed to fit my 15-inch Macbook Pro and it's as tight as you'd want.

Any tighter and you'd struggle to get it in and out.

The bag itself is made from this thick rubbery neoprene material in a matt black finish. It doesn't feel that protective and I'm not going to try my normal tactic of chucking it around the room. Not with my laptop in it. I suppose that's an indication of how much faith I have in the protection it offers.

There's a neat small STM logo on the front and one on the zip pull. The zip is a standard thing, not especially hefty or rugged and with only one zip puller. It doesn't open right up, it just zips from ten o'clock to two o'clock positions on the bag, if you get what I mean.

STM are proud of their green credentials with recycled packaging and labels, and no wasteful stuffing for display purposes. STM is company that was "born green" they claim.

Maybe it wouldn't stink in cold climates, so if you live further north this is perhaps a goer but right now I've had the bag for a week, it still stinks and I'm writing this sitting in a busy room at a café while I'm travelling around. Mysteriously, the room has emptied since I sat down and got the Glove out...
