St Mark’s Basilica
recommended by
Sue Dobson
Built to house the relics of St Mark (liberated from Alexandria) this is probably the world’s most mesmerising cathedral. A stupendous piece of architecture, inside and out, filled with dizzying golden mosaics soaring above a floor of colourful, intricately-patterned marble. Don’t miss the dazzling Pala d’Ora or the opportunity to walk on the Loggia.
Tips: When entering the Basilica, visitors are requested to dress appropriately for a place of worship.
While entry to the Basilica is free, there is 2 Euro charge to view the Pala d’Ora.
Cost per person (no concessions): Free
