Molasses Reef - Ritz Carlton
The Turks & Caicos has already seen the opening of an Aman to boost its luxury credentials. Ritz-Carlton have chosen the wonderfully named Molasses Reef on West Caicos to be the first of a new boutique brand called The Reserve. Uninhabited for over 100 years, the island of West Caicos is opening its shores to new development that will include the 125-room resort, Molasses Reef, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve; a variety of real estate options including Ritz-Carlton branded Island Villas and Cottages, a world-class marina, two national parks and a variety of cultural heritage sites. The hotel and first phase of Island Villas will open in late 2008. Also announced is a partnership with lauded chef Gray Kunz of Café Gray in New York City who will create the resort’s three dining options including a signature oceanfront restaurant. According to the blurb, “The Reserve brand will be distinguished from other award-winning Ritz-Carlton resorts by offering exotic, hand-selected ‘hideaway’ destinations; a relaxed, casually elegant atmosphere and an even greater level of individualised service through a higher staff to guest ratio.” Could this breath fresh life in the ultra reliably slick but sometimes dull, Ritz-Carltons?
