Hell Bay, Isles of Scilly
  Hell Bay, Isles of Scilly

Caressed by the Gulf Stream, the Scillies in July will certainly make you feel like you’ve ventured further than 28 miles southwest of Cornwall. Palm trees, cacti and aloe go with the vast creamy beaches, jade sea and cute settlements.

The Scillies have just five inhabited islands set amongst hundreds of smaller islands and rocky islets. St Mary’s is the largest with its busy harbour in Hugh Town with its cute shops and ice cream parlours. St Martin’s is a gorse-covered moorland with flower fields and dazzling beaches, watersports and boat trips to bird and seal colonies. Tresco has shell-strewn beaches, rugged granite outcrops, the must-visit Tresco Abbey Gardens with its sub-tropical flora, Gallery Tresco for honeymoon keepsakes of art and jewellery and the Therapy Shed for a soothing massage after all that wonderful scuba diving. Bryher has the smallest community of all the islands and the wonderful Golden Eagle Studio of local artist Richard Pearce to explore.

Stay at the beautiful Hell Bay on Bryher from £230 per night (Read Jane’s review here) and sister property, the Island Hotel (www.tresco.co.uk) on Tresco.
