Tierra Atacama
The first spa hotel in the Atacama Desert, Tierra Atacama is a beautiful site to behold. Close to San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis village surrounded by the Andes mountains and the dramatic desert landscape, this is definitely one to put on your ‘to do’ list. Guests can explore the salt flats, hot springs, volcanoes and geysers of the desert in 4x4s, on foot or on mountain bike. The Altiplano of the Atacama Desert is rich with flora and fauna including flamingos, llamas, endangered vicunas and vizcacha (mountainous chinchillas). The hotel’s 32 contemporary rooms are accessorised with hand-made textiles and local artefacts and each have their own private terraces with views of the Licancabur volcano. The Uma Spa (uma is the Aymara word for water) provides an oasis after an active day in the dry air of the desert and has a heated outdoor and indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam rooms and Turkish bath. Treatments include massages, facials and body treatments which all take place in rooms overlooking the volcanoes.
