What springs to mind when you think of English pubs? A roaring log fire? Delicious hearty food? A selection of great ales?

You can enjoy all this and more at the Red Lion - East Anglia's first ever pub to cater exclusively for the meat-free market.

Hungry veggies travel from far and wide to sample the Red Lion's traditional fayre, but unless you pick up the mouthwatering menu, you'd never guess this Suffolk pub was any different to your average country inn.

OK, so the gaming machines and pool tables are long gone but happily, they have been replaced with a fresh decor, sophisticated atmosphere and friendly, smiling staff who are clearly passionate about vegetarian food.

Owner, Jan Wise, has put her all into the pub, which serves up a wide range of homemade dishes to delight both carnivores and herbivores alike.

The Red Lion prides itself on using locally produced ingredients and creates delicious dishes like Roasted Mushroom Wellington and Porcini Risotto Fritters (both around £8.90).

There is a huge selection of popular starters to choose from (try the Baked Camembert) and the tasty desserts - such as Summer Fruits Cheesecake and Dark Chocolate Truffle Torte - are to die for.

If the weather is good, you can enjoy your meal on the al fresco terrace or just pop in to sample the great selection of drinks on offer.

Well worth going out of your way for.
