Explore Jordan in Luxury - Five-star Pampering Twinned with Archaeological and Natural Wonders
  Dead Sea, Jordan

Long famous for Petra and the Dead Sea, Jordan is moving upmarket and its luxury hotels and spas have moved into the first division.

For most people, Amman international airport is the point of entry and it’s less than an hour’s drive to the resort hotels of the Dead Sea. The Jordan Valley Marriot Resort and Spa makes a great base for exploring the attractions of the surrounding area which include Christ’s baptism spot, Mount Nebo; the final resting place of Moses; and the Madaba mosaic map. Lunch here at the Haret Jdoudna restaurant for atmospheric Jordanian cuisine or you could just enjoy the health-giving properties of the Dead Sea mud and minerals and spend your days in the O Beach Resort and Spa.

For something completely different then the next stop could be the Feynan Eco-lodge, nestling in the mountains on the edge of the desert in the Dana Biosphere Reserve. Trekking, mountain biking or hanging out with the Bedouin are all activities on offer here and at night you can try to catch a falling star from the lodge’s rooftop terrace.

The road winds magnificently over the mountains on its way to Petra and the famous archaeological site is well worth two day’s of your time. Then carry on to Aqaba, on the Red Sea, and check in to the Hotel Kempinski, with its stunning views over the gulf. This is a destination in its own right with its 50 metre swimming pool, spa and gourmet fish restaurant, but it’s also convenient for visiting Wadi Rum, made famous by the Lawrence of Arabia movie. A sunset 4x4 drive gives you a flavour of the monumental landscape and you can still make it back to the hotel for dinner.

The best way to get around is to hire a guide and driver from your hotel prior to arrival, but you can also book guides through the Jordan Tour Guide Association. Alternatively you can hire a car as the country is easily navigable for independent travelers. Doing the trip by road makes sense, particularly if you drop the car off in Aqaba and take a Royal Jordanian connecting flight back to Amman.
