Grand Hyatt Macau – contemporary luxury in Macau’s City of Dreams
  Grand Hyatt Macau

Having opened just over a year ago, the Grand Hyatt Macau is still shiny and spanking new. Located bang in the glitzy 'City of Dreams' complex in the Cotai area of Macau, it is indeed very grand – when you enter, it feels like you're stepping into some kind of gleaming contemporary megalith. And I loved everything about it.

The dramatic lobby of the hotel has ceilings so high you can barely see them, and the golden art focal point hanging over a huge silver ball fountain - designed by a Japanese artist – is an eye-catching and impressive piece of work.

The hotel has 791 guestrooms including 391 suites, and our Grand Suite Twin had fabulous night-time views over Cotai, with the bright lights of neighbouring hotels – it was just like mini Las Vegas from our window.

The suite itself was clean, fresh and slick in its décor, muted colours and excellent facilities. With its extremely comfortable beds, I had some of my best sleep on the trip while staying here. The room was very modern, and equipped with complimentary W-Fi as well as a huge flat screen TV and work and dining table.

You'll either love it or hate it, but the glass-walled twin basin bathroom gives the opportunity to watch the world (or your companion!) while you lounge in your tub – rest assured however there are blinds (so if you're idea of sharing a room doesn't extend to baring all, then privacy can be found). The wonderful array of complimentary toothbrushes, razors, combs and toiletries will be replaced on a daily basis.

The Grand Hyatt Macau has a choice of restaurants including Beijing Kitchen and mezza9 Macau, as well as the Lobby Lounge bar and the Patisserie. It would be sorry to not experience a meal at mezza9 Macau, a buzzing restaurant offering different dining experiences and cuisines. We had the Macanese Crab Curry which was delicious, while the Portuguese Egg Tarts served at the Patisserie were definitely some of Macau's finest.

Grand Club Rooms come with access to the Grand Club Lounge and the little extras which can really enhance a stay. These include complimentary breakfast with Chinese and international options, all-day snacks and soft beverages, and a two-hour cocktail and canapés period to enjoy.

It's hard to find bad service in upmarket Chinese hotels, and the Grand Hyatt Macau is no exception. Smiles and acknowledgement could always be expected to be generously doled out from staff, who were also responsive and on the ball to any issues or concerns.

The City of Dreams Casino (one of the territory's sleeker gambling dens) is set in the same building as the hotel, along with the fancy shopping mall, and the massive casino of The Venetian is around the corner, meaning the Grand Hyatt Macau is ideally situated for those who to come to Macau for a flutter.

The hotel is a little out of the way if coming more to see Macau rather than gambling. Macau itself is about fifteen minutes drive away, but there is a frequent free shuttle bus service operated by City of Dreams, and taxis are cheap if you miss the bus or prefer to go direct to your destination. The bus service operates to different casinos too, as well as to Taipa Village.

In all though, the Grand Hyatt Macau offers a luxurious experience in China's answer to Las Vegas.
