Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui: a prime Kowloon location
Harbour View Twin at Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui

My son came over all star struck when we discovered that Rowan Atkinson was dining on the table next to us while we were eating in The Chinese Restaurant of Hong Kong's Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui. Certainly, it makes this particular hotel hard to forget, but aside from excellent restaurants that the famous like to frequent, the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui does have several other merits.

Still just over one year old, the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui is fast becoming known as one of Hong Kong's best located hotels in its class. Smack bang in Kowloon and only 10 minutes walk from Hong Kong Harbour, the Avenue of the Stars, Hong Museum of History, and many other key attractions, the hotel is well-placed for leisure and business travellers on long or short stays.

Our room had been upgraded to a Club Harbour Twin, so we had the additional benefits that came with a Regency Club room, such as a bit more space, complimentary breakfast, alcoholic drinks and snacks in the early evening, and free internet usage in the private club lounge. While a little smaller than some of the other rooms we'd stayed in, they were well equipped and comfortable.

Even the lead-in rooms are excellent value, with complimentary mineral water re-stocked whenever needed, and the exceptionally well-stocked bathrooms with toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, combs and so on – something we'd become accustomed to in Hong Kong.

The only real downside was that WiFi in the rooms had to be paid for, and while so many other hotels offer it for free, even more budget accommodations, I think the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui would do well to reconsider its internet offering to its customers.

The Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui has several restaurants, the one we tried in which Rowan was dining at was The Chinese Restaurant. I have to say, this was some of the best food we tasted in Hong Kong. I tried jellyfish for the first time, and the deep-fried tofu balls were like nothing else – they tasted close to mozzarella, and very delectable. We also tried papaya soup – a very unusual starter. It's worth booking a table whether you're staying at the hotel or not.

In all, the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui offers a great value option in a high-standard accommodation, and good service expected. It's modern rather than plush, and the rooms are not the most spacious, but it's a wise choice if looking for a quality hotel in a prime location.
