Centre Georges Pompidou (Beaubourg)
recommended by
Sue Dobson
The Pompidou Centre ranks alongside London’s Tate Modern and New York’s Museum of Modern Art in holding the world’s finest collections of modern art. Recently overhauled, it remains a must-see as much for its 1970s high-tech, skeleton-like design as its mind-scrambling works. Start on the top floor and work your way down. The Centre also provides some of the finest views of Paris, a library, cinemas, shopping areas and restaurant in a corner of the city brimming with street artists, cafés, boutiques and joie de vivre.
Nearest Metro: Hôtel de Ville. Open Wednesday - Monday 11 am - 9 pm (last entry for museums 8 pm). Sometimes opens until 11 pm on Thursdays. Free entry on the first Sunday of the month.
Cost adult ticket: £5 - £10 pp, child ticket: £5 - £10 pp
