How to see Paris from the most treasured vehicle in town
Bumping over the cobbles has never been as much fun as this - four of us crammed into a old 2CV for a guided tour of Paris.
The driver is the guide, they’re cheery bunch of out-of-work young local actors. They’ll collect you from your hotel, and you can chose one of their set tours or create your own bespoke cruise round the French capital.
We wound the canvas roof back, squeezed in the car and pottered off into Paris. Whether you’re weaving through the jams on the Champs Elysee or pottering down the alleys of the Left Bank, all the locals turn to look. Restored 2CVs like these are a rare sight now in chic Paris. Yet they are greeted like national treasures wherever you go.
We asked to see some little-known sights are got them in abundance, including an incredible street of houses covered in flowering climbers and a little cobbled square with a fountain in the middle - with a convenient bar where we took a well-earned pit stop.
The 2CV tour would make a romantic night-out for two, ending at a suitable restaurant perhaps, or perhaps a fun way of seeing the city in the rain. It’s a great idea. The best bit was pulling up alongside another car at traffic lights, handing them the camera and asking them to take our photo. Luckily they did it quickly before the lights changed and they would have driven off with our camera…
