Naples is chaotic, overcrowded, packed with cars operated by the most aggressive drivers in Europe and infested with small-time criminals, as well as more than its share of big-time ones as well.

It is also one of the most vibrant cities in Europe, with excellent food, more sights than you could possibly visit during a normal trip and delightfully-friendly people, who will smile and charm you, even as they overcharge you in shops and add a massive service charge to your restaurant bill.

Rules here seem to be made to be broken and life is for living. Something to do with living in the shadow of a brooding volcano, perhaps. Seeing Naples at sunset as the moon rises over Mount Vesuvius or gazing down on the metropolis and its curving bay from the Vomero Hills you may be tempted to agree with the locals that this is the most beautiful city in the world.
