Beaches and bays on the Amalfi Coast
Some hotels in Sorrento have a private lift to the beaches, but from the Villa Comunale there is a public lift and stairs where you can reach the beaches and piers, which are also walking distance from Sorrento’s Port Marina Piccola. The little harbour Marina Grande (despite it’s name: “Large Marina”) has a small beach too, but is not the best for swimming because the water is crowded with fisherman’s boats. This small port has great simple and delicious fish restaurants with balconies or platforms right on the sea.
Driving southwest by bus or car towards Punta del Capo, there are other beaches. You will encounter the charming “bagni della Regina Giovanna”, the “Marina di Puolo”, a bigger and well equipped marina and beach, the Lauro beach, and Massa Lubrense port. The best choice, however, would be to rent a boat to explore them all and appreciate the beauty of each tiny inlet and bay.
One of the most beautiful bays is Ieranto, right after Punta Campanella and in front of Capri. Here starts the other side of the Sorrento peninsula: from the sunset coast, the sunrise coast begins. After Ieranto, we find Nerano beach, another peaceful resort where you can stop for lunch for a plate of their famous “spaghetti agli zucchini”. A bit further, there are Positano and Li Galli islands.
