Duck’s at Le Marche Noir
Malcolm Duck opened his eponymous restaurant in Edinburgh’s New Town in 1991, when he decided on a career change from the Royal Marines – inspired from years of fine dining in the officers’ mess. The setting is chic and charming: two intimate wood panelled rooms with a cluster of crisply-dressed white-clothed tables reminiscent of a classy Parisian bistro. Mr Duck and his team offer a consistently high standard of cuisine, award winning wine list and a relaxed convivial atmosphere. The hard work has paid off. The ’Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2008’ includes Duck’s at Le Marche Noir now honoured with a Bib Gourmand. This denotes “Good cooking at moderate prices” - set price 3 course menu at £ 28. The seasonal menu emphasises fine Scottish produce – Perthshire venison, Aberdeen Angus beef, Borders Lamb and organic salmon and west coast shellfish. Malcolm is a wine aficionado and the vast cellar represents his knowledge and travels around vineyards. This is a smart, romantic welcoming wee place for Michelin rising star food at an exceptional price.
