Channings Hotel, Edinburgh
Channings is a boutique Edinburgh hotel within five adjoining Edwardian city townhouses but has the atmosphere of a charming country house. Part of its beauty is the quiet location away from the hubbub of the city centre yet the West End is only a ten minute stroll away. Residents are spoilt for choice: classic chintzy bedrooms, four poster beds or contemporary designer suites, cosy residents’ lounge, cocktail bar, garden patio and first class restaurant.
The hotel is the former home of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and five luxurious suites on the 3rd floor have been named after his ships: rich fabrics, comfy sofas and fabulous brightly coloured roll top baths set against a photographic backdrop of the Antarctic landscape. Discovery is lavishly furnished in tones of orange and gold and Endurance oozes glamour in lipstick crimson red from the bedspread to the bathtub.
Channings' restaurant features a sunny casual conservatory for breakfast or lunch and an intimate formal dining room to sample delicious contemporary European cuisine.
Whatever your reason for visiting Edinburgh - business conference, shopping, culture or a romantic weekend - Channings is the ideal hideaway. It is also discreet – Sean Connery and Elton John are just two celebrity guests who are believed to have stayed. Although the hotel would never say so!
