Quartier du Marais
recommended by
Sue Dobson
In the 3rd and 4th arrondissements and packed with history, fine architecture, good restaurants, gardens, galleries and interesting shops, the narrow streets of the Marais are a delight to wander.
Stroll chic rue Charlot, where you can step back into the 18th century and Marie Antoinette’s style at no 8, Le Boudoir et Sa Philosophie. On rue de Poitou, check out the Christian Lacroix-designed Hotel du Petit Moulin. Don’t miss the Place de Vosges, considered the most beautiful square in Paris, where you can visit the home of the great writer Victor Hugo, now a city museum open 9 am - 6 pm (closed Monday) – entry is free.
Nearest Metro: Saint Paul.
