The Ickworth Hotel
The east wing of Ickworth House, a National Trust property, has been converted into this temple for hip families. The fourth and newest in the Luxury Family Hotel chain provides luxurious adult comforts, stylish décor, good food, a sense of tranquillity and, most importantly, child-friendly surroundings.
Yet there’s no compromise in the design, which is chic, warm and light while respecting the fabulous eighteenth-century Italianate building, allowing parents to feel just as pampered as the rest of the adult population. Facilities include a spa, indoor pool, tennis courts and 1,800 acres of idyllic grounds.
Club/Blu should keep children out of mischief with table football, table tennis and computer games. Outside they can play in the adventure playground, run through the nature trail, or roam the estate on bikes or horseback. Younger ones and babies can be left in a supervised den.
The 27 rooms and 11 apartments are spacious and funky - choose between traditional or trendy. Owner and dad Peter Lord says: ’We wanted to create a space where parents and children could feel special: where the grown-ups can unwind and leave feeling refreshed, and the kids can enjoy a countryside adventure and fun food.’ If only there were more places like this.
