The Samling boutique hotel in the Lake District has the feel of a home rather than a hotel. For starters, there are just 11 gorgeously individual bedrooms; there’s no bar – you just help yourself to drinks in the lounge; and no reception desk either.
The rooms have a romantic-rustic quality, some with exposed beams, almost all with glorious lake views (choose “Pym” for views of Windermere and Old Man Coniston), and each with an abundance of luxurious touches – think open fires, candles, roll-top baths for two and Molton Brown bath products.
But do drag yourself away from your room long enough to try the delicious award-winning food that focuses on seasonal, local produce. And the outdoor hot tub!
The Samling is secluded and seductive – no wonder the likes of Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and the Beckhams had all hunkered down at this Lake District hotel.
