Bath Priory Hotel
The four-acre gardens at the idyllic Bath Priory hotel are laid out in a quintessentially English country garden style, complete with a croquet lawn. The herbaceous borders, presided over by head gardener and Chelsea Flower Show silver medal winner Jane Moore, are filled with mature specimen shrubs and trees, and drifts of classic cottage garden flowers. Irises, lilac, delphiniums, lupins and poppies clamour towards the sun in and blousy peonies dance in the breeze. It is the perfect place to wander.
One of the highlights is the restoration of the hotel’s Victorian Kitchen Garden, which has been so successful that it is able to supply the kitchen with the freshest organic produce throughout the year.
Sample some of the bumper crop for yourself at one of the hotel’s Royal Horticultural Society garden lunches – the next is on 22 August – or simply take a stroll around the grounds, which open to the public under the National Garden Scheme (21 August).
